SASE & SSE- Meeting the
New Network Security Vision
Gartner predicts that around 60% of organizations will have created clear strategies as well as
timelines for the adoption of SASE by 2025, comprising user, edge access, and branch. In 2020,
this figure stood at 10%
Another CISCO study shared that 88% of enterprises in India are creating plans for investment
in the SASE framework since their security professionals consider their cybersecurity tech to be
redundant.
Clearly, with the hybrid and remote work culture gaining ground, SASE (Secure Access Service
Edge), and its subset SSE (Security Service Edge), have fast-become the way forward for CISOs
to ensure secure access to apps anywhere, everywhere. SSE was introduced by Gartner after it
realized that not all vendors are able to meet the ideal SASE vision. With companies preferring to
implement only a few technologies such as SWG/Cloud proxy, CASB, ZTNA, and DLP, as per
requirement, SSE has become the norm for many organizations.
In the following article, we have discussed how existing approaches to network as well as
technologies are no longer serving the purpose of security and access control that enterprises
seek. We spoke to leading vendors and end-customers (including CISOs) to comprehend why
organizations are focusing on immediate and uninterrupted access for users, no matter what
their location- something that both SASE and SSE deliver with great precision.
