Vivo X5 Review

The X5 is Vivo’s flagship offering in India with its major focus on the aesthetics, features, and excellent build quality. Since the launch of the X5 Max, the company has been releasing sequential sleek phones and the Vivo X5 Pro is no different. Vivo X5 is an alluring device with great specifications, but a little pricey with similar and better features available in the market for an affordable price. For Rs. 27,980/-, do you think the Vivo X5 is a worthy contender? Well, let’s find this out in the following review analysis.

Specifications

The Vivo X5 is a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 that holds a Quad-core of 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 and a quad-core of 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 with a 2GB RAM feature. The phone holds 16GB of onboard storage with the ability to expand to 128GB through the use of a microSD card. The X5 presents a 5.5-inch  that is a 1080x1920p, ~401 PPI full HD Super AMOLED display. The X5 phone comes equipped with a hybrid dual SIM configuration that supports all the 4G SIM cards. The significant specification is the support of 802.11n Wi-fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with A-GPS and GLONASS. That presents massive attribution.

Software

The Vivo X5 comes equipped with the Funtouch OS software, a heavily built and customised version of the Android 5.0 Lollipop. One of the major benefits of the X5 software is that it adds custom icons, transition effects, applications, and menus to give users a distinct flavour of all the features.

Similar in certain specifications like the Xiaomi’s MIUI, Gionee Elife S5.1, and the Oppo R5, the UI comes devoid of an application drawer, and all the application widgets and icons are spread across the home screen.

Camera

The Vivo X5 features a 13MP rear camera with f2.0 aperture with an 8MP front-facing camera with f2.4 aperture. The X5 camera application is a standard feature that offers other features like HDR, Night and Bokeh mode but presents no option to play around with attributes such as ISO, contrast, and white balance.

The X5 camera captures decent pictures in broad daylight; however, the camera fails to function without the help of the flash at low-lighting and dark conditions. The X5 offers minor issues with focus while capturing the Macro photos.

The LED flash unit is not a two-tone one feature, and the phone consumes a total of 2,450mAh battery for pictures. Overall, the camera is not a stable strength of the Vivo X5.

Performance

The Vivo X5 presents decent performance as the phone holds a responsive feature with no lag or stutter during casual use. However, the phone has shown the tendency to slightly heat up after intense gaming for about fifteen to twenty solid minutes. The sound output through the X5 speaker’s outlet is pretty loud and clear. The Vivo X5’s network and call quality are pretty decent as the phone offers 4G LTE connectivity in addition to other connectivity options. The X5 2450mAh battery lasts for almost a day with moderate use and brightness at its highest level.

Verdict

For Rs. 27,980/-, the Vivo X5 remains as a pricey mid-range smartphone. The phone offers good cameras and other decent performance and scores high in the appearance department. However, the rival phones offer similar hardware at an affordable price in the market. While the superior build quality and design need much attention as compared to its competitors, the performance of X5 does not meet the expectations. Therefore, Vivo X5 is hard to recommend over other affordable high-performance phones.
